Did John kill him? If he did, who moved the body? Why is there no mention of the missing man on the news? Why didn't he show up to work if he's alive? Where is the missing car? Did anyone see John at the scene? As T。J。 does all he can to help John, they end up at odds。 John makes up a story about T。J。 to cover for the reason they left the party。 T。J。 is furious as John always deflects and blames everything on him。 As things progress and John looks like he's in over his head, T。J。 is struggling with his sobriety。 Nothing is going right and he's sick of passing his favorite bars。 Will T。J。 be able to stay sober and help his brother and his sister with her pro bono case?Things get really tense as you get further into the book。 I couldn't stop reading and it would be 3 a。m。 with me still reading this book! I really felt for T。J。 after all he'd been through and wanted him to get a good outcome。 This book will keep you guessing who is behind all of the things that happen to the Devlins。 I really enjoyed The Truth About The Devlins and rate it 4 stars with a high recommendation。 I'd love to see another book with T。J。 and the Devlins in a series。 As usual, Lisa Scottoline, has written a book with an unforgettable story and unforgettable characters。 I'd like to thank NetGalley and Penguin Group/Putnam/G。P。 Putnam's Sons for an advanced copy of The Truth About The Devlins in exchange for a fair review。 #TheTruthAboutTheDevlins #bookreview 。。。more

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC ebook。This one started off as a fast paced thriller, and continued with a few twists, but wasn't really a page turner。 I liked the main character and his story, but most of the other family members were undeveloped and mostly unlikable。 Once the main mystery is solved , the rest of the book was a slow wrap up of loose ends, and mostly uninteresting。 Not bad, but nothing special。 Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC ebook。This one started off as a fast paced thriller, and continued with a few twists, but wasn't really a page turner。 I liked the main character and his story, but most of the other family members were undeveloped and mostly unlikable。 Once the main mystery is solved , the rest of the book was a slow wrap up of loose ends, and mostly uninteresting。 Not bad, but nothing special。 。。。more

The Truth About the Devlins is a family drama, thriller, mystery, and legal suspense all wrapped into one。 TJ Devlin is a recovering alcoholic and ex-con, definitely the black sheep in a family of lawyers, but he is trying to keep (get?) his life together, working as an investigator for the family law firm and attending AA meeting regularly。 When his brother, John, reached out for TJ's help because he thinks he may have accidentally killed someone, TJ finds himself in a more dangerous and comple The Truth About the Devlins is a family drama, thriller, mystery, and legal suspense all wrapped into one。 TJ Devlin is a recovering alcoholic and ex-con, definitely the black sheep in a family of lawyers, but he is trying to keep (get?) his life together, working as an investigator for the family law firm and attending AA meeting regularly。 When his brother, John, reached out for TJ's help because he thinks he may have accidentally killed someone, TJ finds himself in a more dangerous and complex situation than he could have imagined, testing his sobriety and endangering his life。 The Devlins have strong family loyalties despite many dysfunctional dynamics, which makes for some interesting choices and situation。 The characters have depth and many of them shine; TJ himself is self-deprecating and very likeable, easy to root for despite the mistakes he has made in the past。 Together with the twisty, fast-paced plot and lots of action, this book is a winner for me! 。。。more

This riveting page turner is a must read! Lisa Scottoline is so good at weaving together complex plots and colorful characters that you will find yourself enthralled。 This book is about family and believing in yourself。 Readers will move through a roller coaster of emotions as they careen to the ending。 Readers of Karin Slaughter will devour this book。

Married attorneys Paul and Marie Devlin work beside their two eldest children and fellow lawyers, John and Gabrielle, at their well-regarded law firm。 Then there is TJ, the youngest Devlin。 He is a recovering alcoholic with a criminal record。 He also works for the firm—as an ‘investigator’。 So, when John tells TJ he may have inadvertently killed a client (well he did throw a large rock that hit Neil Lemaire), TJ agrees to help his brother avoid arrest。 Neil was an accountant for one of Devlin & Married attorneys Paul and Marie Devlin work beside their two eldest children and fellow lawyers, John and Gabrielle, at their well-regarded law firm。 Then there is TJ, the youngest Devlin。 He is a recovering alcoholic with a criminal record。 He also works for the firm—as an ‘investigator’。 So, when John tells TJ he may have inadvertently killed a client (well he did throw a large rock that hit Neil Lemaire), TJ agrees to help his brother avoid arrest。 Neil was an accountant for one of Devlin & Devlin’s clients, and may have uncovered some sketchy financial practices。 Neil’s body turns up a day later with a bullet hole, golden child John points the finger at TJ stating that TJ was drinking again。Scottoline explores what it means to be the ‘black sheep’ in a family of over-achievers and how readily they will believe the worst despite lack of evidence。 TJ fights back by doing some serious investigating and what he uncovers causes him to question everything he thought he knew about his family。 Despite what he learns, he remains loyal to them。 Family is family! He believes that some of the disdain he faces is of his own doing and did jail time in the past to atone for it。Gabby uses TJ on one of her pro bono cases involving a pharmaceutical company using convicts as subjects in drug testing that caused harm。 [This case mirrors an actual case。] This is the case that provides the most mystery and action in Scottoline’s story。The strength of Scottoline’s story is with her characters, particularly recovering alcoholic TJ--his struggles to remain sober, his desire to earn the trust of his family, and to believe in himself。 Ironically, TJ proves to be more honorable than some of the other Devlins。 。。。more
